On the shores of Lake Victoria, Winch Energy provides clean solar power to the community of Bunjako Island. With a population of over 20,000 people heavily dependent on expensive and toxic energy sources such as kerosene and diesel, Winch is providing four of the eight villages on the island, Ssenyondo, Buzaami, Bugoma and Burkina, with a reliable clean alternative for domestic and commercial uses. We have seen tremendous improvements within the communities since the arrival of power – people are returning to their home land, building permanent structures for work and living, the access to clean energy has improved night time security within the communities, children have more time to study due to extended light hours and hence accessing higher and better education, mothers benefit from better maternal care, businesses can now use a cheaper and more reliable energy source to boost productivity and revenue.
